Role-Playing Rules

1. BE AS MODERN AS 1968-69: This is a modern roleplay set in 1968-69 and I expect you to keep true to that. It is not medieval and it is not set in the year 2007. No one is a swordsman on horseback in armor and no one has MP3-players It is also based on the Harry Potter story but is not a canon RP. We have borrowed only the magic and the idea of the wizarding world.

2. BE CREATIVE AND OPEN-MINDED: If you want to have a good time on any RP site, you need to be creative and willing to play your character in different situations. See what your character is made of by writing with many different characters on the board.

3. ORIGINAL CHARACTERS from 1968-69 ONLY: No pre-existing characters from any other book, movie etc. In this RP, I require that you make characters that are unique to you, and not pulled from a book or movie or video-game, etc. No Animae. You can, of course, bring a character you created at another RP site here. YOU MAY APPLY FOR ONLY TWO (2) CHARACTERS. Separate accounts are required for each character. At the top of your app please add "Pickles make lovely house-warming gifts" so we know you read the rules.

3A. RICH CHARACTERS-.Please know that all characters are newcomers to the town or they are residents from the upper- middle, middle, working or lower class. Characters from the listed weathly famlies can play out the whole rich thing( just contact and Admin and we'll hook you up). Others need to be average, working class or even poor! Immigrants come with one travel- trunk as Cat's Claw has strict customs restrictions that prevent a lot of importing.

3B. RELIGIOUS CHARACTERS- This board is about magic and fantasy. We do not want the board to lean in any one direction on religion or religous issues. This does not mean a character can't have a faith of his her own choosing. But we will not allow characters that represent any sort of church/religious leadership as that has the potential to create conflict between others on the board as well as appearing to slant our board in one particular religious direction.

4. BE DESCRIPTIVE: Avoid one-line posts as though your life depended on it. I want to see posts that are at least two paragraphs. I expect the players to be capable of writing interesting posts. If you're in the middle of a conversation, your posts can be shorter, to give the other person a chance to reply. But don't post as if you are in a chat room. You aren't. You are writing stories and that takes more than one or two lines.

5. BUT DON'T BE OVERLY DESCRIPTIVE: No one wants to read a five-post description of a room down to the dust specs in a corner or some clothing description down to the last seam. That goes for enormous posts of characters singing songs as well. Don't do it. Find the balance. Please. I'm serious.

6. GRAMMAR AND LANGUAGE: Use clear, precise language, and watch your spelling and grammar. Write in WORD and use spellcheck if possible. It is sad and distracting to see poorly written stories.. Fix type-o's in your post when you notice them. Believe me, more people will read your posts and RP with you if you do.

7. GODMODDING: Play your character and your character only, please. You may not post what another character does or thinks.

8. DON'T EAT THE BOARD: Don't make a character and then come in and post in every thread you see. It messes up plots that people are working on and makes them hate you. Post in a thread that is open and has not been responded to OR PM the person who started the thread to see if you can join.

9. DON'T CONNECT YOUR CHARACTER TO ANY OTHER CHARACTERS ON THE BOARD WITHOUT PERMISSION: Basically, don't say you are Reed Shellgren's long lost sister or Kevin Brennan's illegitimate daughter or any other relation or friend of a character on the board without talking to them first.If you break this rule, an admin may simply delete your account. It causes to much confusion and is not worth arguing over.

9a. Also, do not connect your character to the school or the goverment in any sort of position other than student unless you have persmisson of the admins here. This includes creating histories that link them to either of these. Since this could mess with the general plot we have in place, we are not allowing this.

10.NO COLORED FONTS IN THE IN-CHARACTER POST- We do not allow colored posts in any IN-CHARACTER posts. It becomes way too hard on the eyes as not all colors work well with the board's backgrounds.

11. EROTICA AND VIOLENCE: While we allow mature threads, please temper your posts with good judgment. No rape scenes, bestiality, sado-masochism. If you begin crossing too many tasteful lines, we will step in and warn you.

Sexual content MUST only be written in the 'Get A ROOM' forum. You will need to ask an admin to set up a room for your use. This content will only be available to you and the person you write with. It is not visible to guests or other members.

Threads with heavy or graphic violence may be placed on the board, but must be marked with a 'V' in the topic title. Unmarked threads will be removed and the writers warned once. Repeat offense will result in a ban from the board.

Also, if we see that you are only posting threads of this sort and nothing else, you will be warned once and then banned. We want to keep the balance of things on here.

12. AVI AND SIGGY RULES: Avatars can be no bigger than 120x 120 pixels. Signatures will be limited to 250H X 650W. NO graphic images of violence, sex or nudity. No Animae or other cartoon stuff.

13. ACTIVITY AND ABSCENSES: We ask that you post within one week if you are in active threads. Please don't leave other writers hanging without touching base with them. If you cannot post, PM as admin and we will have FATE move into your thread. Please be patient and allow the writer to respond. If it's more than a week, PM an admin and we will work something out to help you continue.

If you know you will be off the board for awhile, please post it in the Absences forum as soon as you know. It just makes it easier for others you write with to know you are unavailable.

Please know that we will move characters to the WALKING THE PLANK forum if they are abscent for ten days without notifying us. If you do not check in within fourteen days, we will delete your character. It's not intended as a punishment, but as a way to know who is with us. We know that people come and go on roleplays. It is no good to have others waiting on a character who never intends on coming back.

If you decide the board is not for you, please don't worry. Just send us a PM. We won't guilt you into staying. Everyone has their own likes and comfort areas. We just like to know if you are on your way out.
