The History of the  Black Pullet~ is a grimoire. It has been guarded by the Guild of Raven since the sixteenth century. Muggles know of this grimoire, but the copy they have is not the true one.The fake copy was created by the Guild of Raven to keep the muggles curiosity at bay. The reason being, muggles do have contact with wizards and the Guild hides the book both in and out of the magical world, depending on the book's choices.

The book has a mind and a life of its own.   It has never stayed in one place for more than thirteen days. If it is not moved, it begins to utter noises and wails mournfully or screeches in horrible tones. Pages seem to try to escape and the book becomes so hot at times that gloves must be worn to prevent burns. Many believe it contains both trapped souls and demons within its pages of dark magic. Every thirteen days, for hundreds of years, the book has been taken from one location to the place it chooses.  The location appears on the book's first page. If it is not appeased, it will look for a new owner. The book itself is vile and as tried to escape from the Guild many times. It has killed many who have handled it over the centuries.  It can be opened only in the first seven days it resides in a new location, then its leather binds become immoveable until the thirteenth day when it requires its new destination.

The Guild's last leader, Gabriel O'Ganlon, was said to have received a prophecy from the book when he was only twenty-six. They say he defied death endless times and lived longer than any normal wizard. He seemed to be waiting for the signs, even when members of the Guild began to think him of unsound mind. It is said that the book placed seven secrets with Gabriel, but until the prophecy was fulfilled, he could not own their answers.

He believed he saw a sign in a child named Ryan Avery, whose mother had joined the Guild along with many other young people in the 1950's. She was, like most of the young members, only a fledgling, barely knowing all that the Guild was charged with. Only the Inner Circle held all the Guild's truth. Still, her dedication and then, by chance, her lineage, caught O'Ganlon's interest.

O'Ganlon made it standard practice to be presented with a lineage on every member who joined the Guild, no matter how minor their role. Fern Avery's maternal line pointed toward a the line of Xavier Raven. It was the first new link he'd found in Xavier Raven's obscure line in over fifty years. Fern's son, Ryan, was soon of great interest to O'Ganlon for reasons few understood.

By this time, few in the Guild took him seriously. In a last effort to preserve the secrets he could not know, he used an ancient ceremony from the book to seal them in Ryan until the prophecy could be fulfilled. Even this act, that left Ryan nearly dead, had no impact on the Guild's failing view of O'Ganlon. If anything, they now felt the boy to be a security risk, having these secrets placed within him. Many of the Inner Circle believed it would be best for all concerned if the boy was disposed of.  Reed Shellgren, an advisor to O'Ganlon, stepped in on the boy's behalf. He told the Inner Circle that the child likely had only been made ill by O'Ganlon's botched magical attempt of a spell that none of them had experience with. As much as he felt loyal to O'Ganlon, he did know the man was failing and that this boy would pay the price. He told the Guild that O'Ganlon was in fragile mental health and that a vote should be taken as to his leadership abilities.

The Inner Circle voted to have O'Ganlon's leadership haulted and to have Reed Shellgren take over those responsibilites. O'Ganlon died of natural causes three months later, before Reed Shellgren, the new Guild Leader, could get him to remove the magical bind put on the boy. O'Ganlon said he witnesses an eight year old Ryan Avery take the shape of a raven for a few moments. He said it was a sign. He believed that the prophecy was finally in motion and that the book would finally meet its destiny.

The book is missing its last page. This page is said to be written by the chosen descendant of Xavier Raven. The belief is that when this last page is written, the book will finally find its full power and be tamed and controlled by its rightful owner,  or it will meet its final demise. A magical quill made of a black pullet feather bound with a raven feather (simply called the "pullet quill" was said to be created that only this descendant could use. It has been missing since the late seventeenth century in a battle with a dark wizarding group in Poland. The quill has not resurfaced.

A traitor to the Guild tipped off the Dray to the move of the book in the Autumn of 1968. Kevin and his followers moved in and killed several Guild members in the jungles of Tambopata Candamo in Peru.

How the Black Pullet Effects You~ The Black Pullet will act as a character of sorts on this board. It may approach you with a single page of power, or confront you with a demon or trapped spirit. You are free to have your character react in any way he or she wishes, but know that the book cannot be overpowered.

Whatever powers, pages, demons or souls that are offered by the book, can be taken away just as quickly. The book is at the whim of no one and has goals of its own. The book will interrupt your threads and will take you off course at times. It will give and it will take away. It may take your secrets and give them to an other character. This book is not just about certain characters on the board, its about how it might effect each and every person on some level.
